Some questions you might have about me!

Do you have experience in the Automotive industry?

I have 37 years automotive experience in franchised dealers and independent workshops. Like many garage owners, I am a technician. Over the years I have attained AEDM MOT status, Auto Electrician and completed the IMI Master Technician qualification.

Can you tell me a bit of your history?

After starting in the dealer network as a technician. I moved on to workshop supervision, and then the Service Advisor and Service Supervisor roles. I subsequently worked as a Service Manager in an independent.

Have you owned a garage business?

Yes! I initially worked from a single unit repairing and selling cars. Eventually I thought I would up my game and take on a new challenge.

In 2006 I bought an underperforming, all makes garage and MOT station. We were a total team of 5. My mission was to change the face of the independent motor industry by delivering exceptional customer service. A very grand idea, but always think big!

Have you experience of Brand specialism?

Absolutely! After three years of repairing all brands, I found that repairing everything to the standard I wanted to provide was becoming increasingly difficult, so I changed the all makes business into a German car specialist. This had it's difficulties but I overcame them to build a successful specialist over the 16 years of ownership.

Do you still have the business

No I don't. In late 2022 I enacted my exit plan and sold the business. Whilst I had a plan, the process of selling was not what I expected. A steep learning curve shall we say!

So why business coaching and teaching?

I have had so many experiences in this fabulous trade that I wanted to help others achieve their goals. Whether that be through learning a new skill or improving their business.

How can you help me?

During my garage ownership I implemented processes to enable better customer service and team communication resulting in smoother business operation and improved profit. I transitioned the business from an all makes repairer to a German car specialist and then navigated my way to the successful sale of the business. Obviously a lot more went on in between, I am sure most of what you experience on a daily basis.

I suppose you could describe my role now as a guide, to help you get to where you want to be.

I help garages through mentoring plans, but I am also involved with teaching new and experienced service advisors with dedicated front of house training. this takes place at Technical Topics.
